Lavacchio sits on the end of a ridge beyond the little hamlet (borgo) of Promiana, floating above the broad Serchio valley within the bounds of the Garfagnana Park. The beautiful walled city of Lucca is 38km to the south and the little town of Barga lies 8km to the east. Perched on the edge of the chestnut clad Apuane Alps, Lavacchio looks across at the wild mountains of the Appenine ridge.  Shops and restaurants are only 10 minutes away and there are local markets on most days.
The beaches of Viaréggio are an hour's exhilirating drive through the mountains whilst in the immediate vicinity there is excellent walking, mountain bike trails and horse trekking. In winter the resorts of Abetone and Mt Cimone offer superb skiing and snow boarding. The cultural delights of Florence and Pisa are within two hours drive and the intriguing sights of San Gimignano lie a little further.
